Suspect Arrested In Sac Elderly Stabbing Death

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― An elderly Sacramento woman was stabbed to death last night at a Sacramento home and Sheriff's Deputies say they have a suspect in custody.

Pausta Sibarini, 65, and her husband, 69, were stabbed at the group home they managed in the 4900 block of 44th Street at around 8:15 p.m. Friday.

Deputies say that when deputies they went inside home they found the victims with multiple stab wounds. Pausta was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband was taken to the hospital where he is now clinging to life.

Witnesses gave a description of the suspect to deputies who found the suspect in the backyard of the home and took him into custody without a fight.

The suspect is 39-year-old Ofiu Edwards. He was booked into the Sacramento Main jail and charged with murder, attempted murder and elder abuse. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Sept. 9, 2008 at 1:30 p.m.

There is no indication of what kind of disability Edwards has. He's one of several clients who live at the home, which is licensed with the state's Heath and Human Services Agency.

The attack comes just seven months after another murder happened across the street at another independent living home.
